Discussions on how a UK tech solution can be adapted and implemented in Pakistan

What began as a conversation at London Tech Week has now progressed into operational discussions on how a UK tech solution can be adapted and implemented in Pakistan

As part of REMIT’s efforts to build UK–Pakistan technology partnerships, we facilitated an engagement between Begini, a UK fintech specialising in SME credit assessment, and Pakistan’s SME ecosystem, with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and CEO SMEDA in the chair.

The discussions focused on one of Pakistan’s biggest barriers to SME growth: access to finance. For thousands of small businesses, particularly women-led enterprises, access to credit remains constrained by information asymmetry between SMEs and financial institutions. Without credible data to assess creditworthiness, many viable businesses remain excluded from formal finance.

Begini’s innovative approach to alternative credit assessment offers a practical solution. By creating more inclusive methods of evaluating creditworthiness, including for women entrepreneurs and businesses with limited financial histories or lower levels of financial literacy, the partnership has the potential to expand access to finance while supporting one of the Prime Minister’s key priorities: increasing credit flow to SMEs.

It is a strong example of how international engagement can translate into tangible partnerships that address real economic challenges.
