Yesterday, the Prime Minister of Pakistan launched the New Energy Vehicle Policy. The REMIT programme supported the Government of Pakistan on the design and development of this policy with extensive consultations across various sector’s including input from national and international experts, for over a year.
This Green Leap by the Government of Pakistan envisions 30% of all new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030, supported by 3,000 charging stations. On implementation, the policy can cut 4.5 million tons of carbon emissions by reducing fuel use by 2 billion litres, save PKR 105 billion in healthcare and productivity, and generate over PKR 174 billion in revenue from surplus power.
At a time when the climate crisis intensifies daily, such steps towards cleaner and greener modes are vital for a sustainable and prosperous future.
